Essential Packing Tips for a Smooth and Pain-Free Move

Posted on: 28 August 2017

Whether you are moving to a new home in the next town or relocating across the country for your new job, the way you pack your belongings can make a big difference when you arrive at your new location. Most moving day disasters can be avoided if you take the time to pack your belongings properly and protect them the right way. Here are some smart packing tips you can use to make your next move as stress-free and uneventful as possible.

Pack Your Essentials in an Overnight Bag

Now is the time to drag out that old carry-on bag and put it to use. Stock an overnight bag with the essentials you need, from your prescription medications to your cell phone charger, the night before the move.

Having your essentials with you will make your life so much easier. It will give you more time to unpack and time to relax once all the boxes have been moved into your new home. If you have the things you really need right at hand, you can take your time unpacking the rest of your belongings

Use Socks to Protect Your Stemware

If you have wine glasses and other delicate stemware, you can use your socks to keep them protected. Just pull the sock over the base and tuck the rest into the glass.

You can wrap the rest of your place settings, including dinner plates and serving dishes, in your old clothes. Just wrap your old T-shirts, loungewear and other clothes around those breakables and pack them in the appropriate boxes. You will save a fortune on bubble wrap without sacrificing the protection you need.

Pack the Things You Expect to Need Right Away in a Clear Plastic Bin

Use clear plastic bins to pack the things you expect to need first. That will make it much easier to find the stuff you need in your new home. Just think about the items you think you will need most once you get moved into your new home and pack appropriately.

Label Your Boxes

It is important to label each box several different ways. Start by labelling each box with the room it will be going into. Keeping all your kitchen items, living room items and dining room items together will make unpacking faster and easier.

As you pack each box, jot down each item you put in. This will make it much easier to determine where everything goes when you get to your new home and start opening the boxes.

Before you do this, make sure you have the right boxes and packing supplies in the first place.

Nothing can make moving completely stress-free, but the right packing techniques can reduce the risk of breakage and other moving day disasters. Whether you are moving across town or across the country, taking the time to pack carefully now will make unpacking in your new home much easier.
